Lent

Welcome to Saint Benedict Catholic Church!

Saint Benedict Parish is a Roman Catholic community of faith located in Anchorage Alaska, in the Archdiocese of Anchorage.
We are a community of Christian stewards, working to live and preach the Word of God in thought, word and deed.

We do this by the joyful and reverent celebration of the Sacraments of the Church and by the intentional formation of disciples of Christ, so that we may witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all that we meet in our local community.  Please join us in our mission of faith to the people of Southwest Anchorage! We are a welcoming Catholic community called by God to live out the message of Christ in love and service.

             COVID - 19 UPDATES

Restrictions on Liturgical Celebrations and Parish Activities in the Archdiocese of Anchorage

Dear Parishioners and Visitors to Saint Benedict Parish,

By direction of Bishop Bellisario our parish church is closed to public visitation in order to protect the
common good during a time of expected dramatic increase in coronavirus infection. I join you in a
common disappointment at not being able to attend Mass and receive the Eucharist. The good news is
that our sacrifice is temporary. This pandemic will eventually end, and the sacrifices we willingly make
now may speed that process and prevent others from contracting the virus and perhaps even dying from
it. Out of charity, we owe our brothers and sisters this personal sacrifice. Bishop Bellisario has
issued a dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass.

I recommend the following:

a. Watch your daily and Sunday parish Mass and Stations of the Cross streamed on Facebook. Go to the
Saint Benedict Parish Face Book page at:  facebook.com/stbenedictsak.

b. Read the daily Scriptures as a family and make a “spiritual Communion” by desiring to receive our
Lord. This is an ancient practice of the Church.
d. Consider acts of charity within our city, respecting proper health protocols.

Reconciliation is by appointment on any day of the week.  Please call Fr. Tom on his cell
at 317-9042.  He will remain on call especially during the traditional times for
reconciliation within the parish.

I am personally available to you for any pastoral outreach by calling my cell at
(907) 317-9042. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if I may be of assistance.

Thank you for the sacrifices you make for the well-being of others.Thank you for reaching out to help
others as we walk this unique Lenten journey together as a parish family. Remember our Lord walks
with us!
Fr. Tom

P.S. Thank you for remembering to support your parish financially, as finances remain
extremely tight and we have to still meet expenses during this challenging time. You can
donate online at https://www.osvonlinegiving.com/199 or mail in your offering. Many thanks!

                                  Stations of the Cross

On Fridays during Lent Fr. Tom will lead the Stations of the Cross, beginning at 7:00pm.  There are also many good sites on the Internet for praying the Stations; however, should you wish to check out what the "home team" is doing, feel most welcome to tune in, following your own "Soup Supper!"

"Prayer for a Spiritual Communion"

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.”
