Fr. Steven C. Moore
I have often
thought that the process of appointing pastors in the Catholic Church and their
taking office was a little bit like an arranged marriage. No one is quite sure
how the process occurs. If it should turn out well everyone can take credit and
if it ends badly no one has to take the blame. And in spite of everything we
all enter the process with high hopes and a willingness to move toward the
future together.
In the current
case my start at St. Benedict’s was not the most auspicious. A day after
arriving I came down with the bronchitis and laryngitis that has been going
around. A trip to the emergency room, some antibiotics and a few days rest seem
to have done the trick. Though not quite at full strength I would say it is
about 90% and getting better. So my first weekend in the parish has been
postponed from last week to this. I particularly want to thank Sister. Kathleen
O’Hara, who with Father Luz Flores and Father Vincent Beuzer, stepped in to
handle the weekend duties and worship. Thank also to all of you for your
understanding and for the many thoughtful good wishes.
I can say that
after my three year jaunt toward a degree in Canon Law I am happy to be back in
We have a
challenging time ahead of us as a parish and I am happy and pleased to be here
and to serve in whatever way I can. A key part of that service is for me to be
as available to the people of the parish as I am able. In these days of
dwindling numbers of priests and rising demands this is not always easy.
However I shall strive to do my very best. One of the best ways to contact me
for ordinary business is via e-mail at
stbenpastor@gmail.com.
This is particularly good for those who might want to try and set up a time to
see me or who have routine questions. As well I have implemented an emergency
after hours voice mail and paging system to contact me outside of normal
hours. Should any need arise parishioners can dial 929-9338 to have me paged.
Thank you all for
all that you have done to make me welcome and for all the work you do for the
parish. I look forward to working with you as we build the future of the parish
together.
